5–7 min station
Teaches

Move the glove to the ball instead of sticking it out and hoping the ball finds it.

Bring ● Soft ball ● Glove
Setup
  • Helper stands about 5–8 feet away.
  • Use soft underhand tosses.
  • Player starts with her glove arm out front, elbow slightly bent.
  • Use a softer ball if she’s a little nervous.
How it works
  1. Toss gently to different spots: left, right, high, low.
  2. The player moves her glove to the ball and catches it.
  3. Reset after each catch. Keep a steady, easy pace.
  4. No return throws at first — just catch and reset.
  5. As she gets confident, place the toss a little farther from her glove.
Watch for
  • The glove moves first, not her whole body reaching.
  • Glove stays out in front instead of pulling into her chest.
  • Eyes stay on the ball all the way into the glove.
What to say
Move your glove to the ball.
Go get it with your glove.
Keep your glove out front.
Yes — quick glove!
High-five moments
  • She moves the glove before her feet do.
  • She catches one she had to reach for.
  • She hustles back to a ready position on her own.
Make it easier

Toss it right at her glove a few times so she feels the win. Confidence first — then slowly start moving the tosses.

Level it up

Mix directions without calling them out. Play a small game: 5 clean catches in a row earns a silly celebration.

Key cue
“Chase the ball with your glove, don’t wait for it.”
