Level Swing

5–7 min station
Teaches

A level swing path through the hitting zone — the bat travels shoulder to shoulder, not up-and-down, which gives her the most margin for contact.

Bring ● Bat ● Helper or mirror
Setup
  • No ball — this is a dry-swing drill.
  • Start in her normal batting stance.
  • Hold a second bat or a broomstick horizontally at her belly-button height as a guide.
How it works
  1. She swings the bat over the guide bar you hold.
  2. The swing starts at her back shoulder and finishes at her front shoulder.
  3. Bat barrel stays roughly level the whole way through — like she's swinging through a tabletop.
  4. Ten slow swings, focusing on the path, not the speed.
  5. Then five full-speed swings — same path, more power.
Watch for
  • Bat doesn't dip down below her knees — that's an uppercut.
  • Back elbow stays up at the start, doesn't collapse.
  • Her hips turn along with the bat — not just arms.
What to say
Shoulder to shoulder.
Stay level through the middle.
Turn your belly button.
That swing would smoke it.
High-five moments
  • A visibly level bat path on three swings in a row.
  • She can finish with her bat resting on her front shoulder.
  • She says “that felt good” without you asking.
Make it easier

Drop the guide bar — just mimic her swing slowly and have her match you. Copying is easier than correcting.

Level it up

Place a ball on a tee and have her swing OVER the tee without hitting the ball — then one where she does hit it. Control then contact.

Key cue
“Shoulder to shoulder.”
